Istanbul has a wide and busy public transport network including metro, tram, buses, funicular, dolmuş (shared taxi) and ferries. It is highly advisable that you buy an IstanbulKart costs 6 ₺ and load credit onto the card instead of buying tokens for every journey.
Each journey costs 2.15 ₺ with IstanbulKart. If you don't bu IstanbulKart you can buy tokens (jeton) en each station costs 4 ₺.
Metro Transportation - Metro Map
The metro has five lines: Yenikapı - Hacıosman, connecting the Galata area to the ‘new city’, Istanbul’s business center. The Kadıköy - Kartal line connects the Asian Side’s central district to more residential areas. Hacıosman - Yenikapı, connecting centre of the city Taksim with Yenikapı, over Golden Horn. This line also connecting Hacıosman and Yenikapı by metro.
Atatürk Airport - Yenikapı line connecting European side international airport Atatürk Airport. Also the Kirazlı Station in this line providing oppurtunity to reach Başakşehir Line.

The fastest overground transportation vehicle is metrobus that has seven lines; Avcılar - Zincirlikuyu, Söğütlüçeşme - Cevizlibağ, Beylikdüzü - Avcılar, Beylikdüzü - Cevizlibağ, Beylikdüzü - Söğütlüçeşme, Avcılar - Cevizlibağ and Zincirlikuyu - Söğütlüçeşme. With metrobus you can reach Atatürk Airport area, exhibition center TUYAP and business districts of the city Levent fast and easy way.
Tram transportation in Istanbul provides a journey that you can witness all the beauty of the city. There are three tram lines in Istanbul.
The tram is more useful for most visitors, as the Kabataş-Zeytinburnu line that connects the major sightseeing spots, hotel areas and the airport light rail tram. They are; Kabataş - Zeytinburnu line that The full journey takes about 45 minutes.
Kabataş - Bağcılar Tram provides access to Taksim - Kabataş Funicular, Yenikapı - Hacıosman and Atatürk Airport - Yenikapı metro line. Also with this line you can reach Zeytinburnu - Bağcılar line.
Topkapı - Habibler line provides access to Sultangazi, Gaziosmanpaşa, Bayrampaşa and Eyüp districts. Şehitlik Station on this line is connected to Avcılar - Söğütlüçeşme metrobus, Yenikapı- Atatürk Airport metro line, Zeytinburnu - Kabataş tram line.
Nostalgic Tram in Kadıköy has 10 stations. This line takes off from Kadıköy, follows Bahariye Steet and over Moda street reaches Kadıköy again.
Servising between Taksim and Kabataş this line provides access to many important districts in the city, such as; Yenikapı- Hacıosman metro, Taksim - Tünel Nostalgic Tram, Kabataş Ferry Port.
Tube tunnel under Bosphorus; Marmaray, provides an easy access between European and Asian side with Ayrılıkçeşme and Kazlıçeşme lines .
Cableway in Eyüp that runs over Golden Horn provides access to Pierre Loti, one of the best touristic destinations in the city.
Ferries connect the two continents, and the most popular lines are Beşiktaş-Kadıköy (departs every 30 min, takes about 20 min), Eminönü-Kadıköy, as well as the Golden Horn and Bosphorus routes.

Shared taxis (dolmuş) depart when they are full (generally 8 people), and important lines are Eminönü-Taksim, Beşiktaş - Harbiye and Taksim-Bostancı. Payment in cash, Istanbulkarts are not accepted.
